Now, a gadget that makes a pirated Nintendo games run like the original one is in hot demand among many gamers. This gadget is a ‘R4’ memory chip that can be slot into a Nintendo handheld console, opens up to the gaming world of pirated games downloadable from the internet. 

Piracy has been around since the start of the computer age and still lived until these days. Then why do people play and support pirated games? In order to find out why, we need to analyse further and also why it is so hot in demand. 

There are basically three groups of people who support piracy.

The first group are students. Most students love computer games and spend about 2 to 3 hours playing them everyday.

However, students have limited allowances, about $2 to $4 every day but original games cost about $60 or even more. Therefore, it would take them months to save enough in order to buy one. However, pirated games are much cheaper, approximately a tenth of the original games price. As a result, the majority of the students would either buy pirated games or borrow the games from their friends to download rather than buying an original one. 

The second group are people who have lower incomes but are crazy over computer games. Piracy provides an option for them as choosing between buying one or not, they would definitely want one to play. The prices of pirated games are compromised by its quality compared to the original ones. Those who could afford would definitely buy the original ones and do not mind paying more just for better quality. However, those who cannot afford the original ones are left with no other choice but to buy the pirated ones and make do with the poorer quality. Thus, buying pirated games are their only way. 

The last groups of people are those who are money conscious. They are addicted to computer games but do not want to spend too much on them.  

When the buying stops, so does the selling. How do we stop people from buying pirated games then? I personally have some suggestions on how to minimize the number of piracy supporters. 

First is to minimize the original games prices. The gaming industries are pricing their games way too high. The prices of original games are about ten times that of the pirated ones. Why do they want to price it so much higher then? Why are those people selling pirated games can sell them at such dirt cheap prices and continue to sell them? If it is still profitable, then why do the gaming industries want to price their games out of reach?In addition, some gaming industries make hundreds of millions by selling games alone. If they charge their goods a third of their current price, much more people could afford them. The not well-to-do would also not be deprived from playing original games. Moreover, selling games at cheaper prices does not mean lesser profit margin. By pricing the games cheaper, more people would buy causing sales volume to increase , thus a higher profit is achieved. 

As a result, piracy will greatly reduce as the prices of original games fall as people would find it meaningless to buy pirated games anymore. With lesser buyers, people would not take the risk of producing pirated games if they are not able to sell it. 

In conclusion, piracy will stay because of its cheap price, but will be drastically reduced if there are fewer supporters. Unless the prices of original games reduce, I strongly believe that piracy will stay.
